Continuing Care

Graduation from Greenbrier Academy marks a huge step in a girl’s life. It signifies a commitment to a hopeful life filled with meaning, purpose and wonderful relationships. There is so much a graduate has to be proud of. It is also a time when a student will need continued support from her family at home and at Greenbrier Academy. It is often difficult to transition back to the same place where old negative patterns were formed and return to the same friends that may have played a part in creating those patterns. To help facilitate this transition and support all the hard work done by the graduate and her family, Greenbrier Academy provides services through the Continuing Care Program and the Greenbrier Academy Alumni Association.

 

The Continuing Care Program makes it easy to get a “tune-up” when a graduate needs it most. There are weekly conference calls with other alumni, so the girls are able to support one another and foster the positive relationships they built at school. These teleconference groups are facilitated by a member of the Greenbrier Academy therapeutic team, and operate much like “groups” did on campus. A graduate and her family may also receive more specific, one-on-one phone counseling in addition to the group sessions. And, of course, a graduate is encouraged to email and check in at any time.

 

As a graduate gains confidence in the success she is achieving, she can have the opportunity to give back to the community that supported her by visiting campus and being a source of inspiration for the girls currently attending. She is able to share her wisdom and experience with others who are walking where she has walked. This helps reinforce the relationships she has developed to something greater than herself and it helps reinforce for her the wonderful lessons she learned as a student at Greenbrier Academy.

 

The Greenbrier Academy Alumni Association is something that both graduates and families can enjoy being a part of. The Alumni Center is located in Canaan Valley, West Virginia right next to the Canaan Valley Ski Resort. Retreats are offered throughout the year. Some are just for the girls; others are for families. Sometimes the retreats focus on building a relationship with just one parent, as in the father/daughter or mother/daughter retreat. Each retreat focuses on continuing to build and sustain long term virtuous relationships. In addition to the retreats, once a year the Alumni Association sponsors a reunion where all former students, their families, and Greenbrier Academy staff can reconnect. These are great gatherings and everyone has a wonderful time catching up.
