The House That Built Me

Below is an essay written by a Greenbrier graduate for one of her college classes. She briefly tells her story about how her perspective changed and how the relationships at Greenbrier affected her and continue to influence her. It is the deepest compliment to the great work we do when a graduate can look back in retrospect and still feel the appreciation and connection fostered as a student. Thanks T. Maddie’s Story

A note from Greenbrier Academy: While leaving home to attend Greenbrier Academy for Girls can be a bit scary at first, our girls often come to find that after months at Greenbrier, they have a wonderful second home and a huge “extended family” of supportive and caring friends. Many students come back to visit or keep up their correspondence with us, especially through our Aftercare Program. Students write about their experiences in many different forums. Here, alumni Maddie shares one of her summaries of her journey of growth through her teenage years and at Greenbrier. Greenbrier Academy Parent Offers Feedback

Parents of students at Greenbrier Academy for Girls give us valuable feedback. We want parents and others to know that we are ready to listen to suggestions and appreciate knowing what has been the most helpful for you as you have either checked out our academy or had your daughter (niece, granddaughter, etc.) attend. One of our alumni parents, Sherri, recently told us some specifics about what helped her daughter: “At Greenbrier Academy for Girls, I believe Jenna’s individual therapeutic sessions had the most impact on Jenna. Individual therapy worked best for Jenna because consistent social skills and feeling liked by the community is a challenge for her. Ginger helped Jenna develop the strength to address areas she was not able (or ready) to before.
