Equine Assisted Learning
Greenbrier Academy’s Equine Program has facets which incorporate relational therapeutics and academics with the Equestrian Arts. Expert level instruction, under the direction of April Hart, and well-trained horses form its foundation. Because working with horses is an effective therapeutic activity, and promotes a healthy lifelong recreational outlet, all students will have the opportunity to move through the four-phase therapeutic program, depending on their level of experience.

The primary mission of the equine program at Greenbrier Academy is to facilitate caring and effective relationships between girls and horses. Understanding that the experience of communing with horses and learning to understand their sensibilities while participating in their care and work program provides excellent opportunities for students to develop strong compassionate behavior beneficial to all relationships.

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is provided for all students at Greenbrier Academy. Girls spend 3 ½ hours per week caring for and working with horses. Each student learns about basic horsemanship while developing a special relationship with a chosen equine friend.

The Equestrian Program is offered for those students with a specific interest in riding and the equestrian arts. Those enrolled in this optional program will expand on the relational work done in EAL classes while developing their equestrian skills. This is a credited and graded class which includes: a weekly private lesson, a weekly group or semi private lesson, care responsibilities, and training and horsemanship classes. Equestrian Students will have the opportunity to attend a variety of equine events throughout the year both on and off campus.
