 Mark Dennison

Welcome

Welcome to Greenbrier Academy School!

As both an educator and administrator I have come to believe that education has the power to change the world, that education has the energy to transform a community and raise it above its current status and circumstance, that education allows the person to transcend poverty, and alter the attitude of prejudice. Indeed, education embraces the very essence of transforming vision, for where there is no vision, there is no change, and where there is no change there is stagnation, digression, deprivation and eventually, non-existence.

Here at GBA, our young women are encouraged to embrace Mission, Source, and Virtue, they are taught through principles that are designed and interwoven to cleave, weave, and combine both therapeutic and academic elements into one essential core, that once internalized, become the formula for life-long virtuous living.

Education is a combination of course work, classroom instruction and life experiences. It comes from living life, following the course of appropriate passions, aspirations, logic and heart beats that encourage accessing information, observing healthy life styles, exceptional cognitions, inter reflecting, and being inspired by wise and courageous men and women who have learned valuable lesson before us and who have become the sages in our communities.

Each of these life-long learning experiences are interconnected and form relationality to self, community and to something greater than the self. They speak to our authentic and true self, and every task we engage in life’s journey becomes a self-portrait of the work and effort we have put forth. We encourage each young lady to autograph her personal work with excellence. For what sculpturing is to a block of marble, academics becomes to the inquiring spirit.

The art of teaching is self-discovery. With the aid of our excellent teachers, the world is unfolded. A teacher affects eternity, and he or she can never tell where the influence of the knowledge shared in a classroom will eventually lead.  The masterpiece that is painted, the ballet performed, or the literature written that becomes one of the great books of our time, governance of nations, a new discovery that leads to health and prosperity for all-this is the journey of academics at Greenbrier Academy for Girls.

These objectives are reached through a challenging curriculum designed to prepare our students for the rigors of higher education, and to become informed global citizens. Additionally we integrate immersion academics to develop personal passions and interests among our students.

We provide a positive climate for our students to thrive academically by using inquiry-learning models in the classroom, and experiential learning opportunities outside the schoolhouse. Across our curriculum, we place a holistic emphasis on language arts through an integrated reading, writing and oral communication program. As a father, I am committed to your daughter's health and well being, as an educator I am excited to be part of the process of expanding the vision of your student, and I am grateful to be able to work with your family.
