Steve Hedrick -
Math Teacher
Steve Hedrick earned a degree in Chemical Engineering
from West Virginia Institute of Technology (now WVUIT) in 1982. He worked in
industry for 5 years and then became self-employed in maintenance and
construction. During the last decade, he has been an educator. Working in
both public and collegiate settings, he has taught Mathematics and
Chemistry.
Although able to teach difficult material, Steve
understands that many students’ math skills need to be bolstered. So, he
works to find their "comfort zone" and build from there using repetitive,
non-punitive testing methods, which have been very effective with students
who want to succeed. Steve ensures Greenbrier Academy students build a
fundamental life math understanding to complement the math skills they
learn.
Steve and his wife, Lydie, currently live in Beckley, but plan
to move closer to the Academy. His leisure interests include reading, music,
and home remodeling. He also spends his time helping elderly family, which
has been a wonderful factor in returning him to the mountain state time and
time again as Steve is originally from West Virginia but has also lived in
Ohio, Massachusetts, and Arizona.
